Oh...did I mention.....

So on top of having all the nursing issues, i woke up saturday morning with extreme pain in my right boob, the one boob that has been a champ - no soreness in the nipple- I thought it had to do with the Reglan I have been taking since it is supposed to increase my milk supply. I did all the things you would do to treat engorgement and nothing helped. Well, after attempting to nurse Oakley and about 15 minutes of both of us bawling.....I called my doc and my lactation specialist, the conclusion......I have mastitis!!!! Life just is not fair I tell ya!

I thought natural labor was painful, well i lied! This is a pain that i wish on no one! and for those of you that have experienced it, you know what i mean. And to make matters worse, steve was gone all day for a golf tourney up in Heber, it just happened to be called "the longest day" tourney. So my poor mom had to come down and take care of me and the kids till he got home. What would i do without her!!!!

So, now that my milk supply is low do to going off the Relgan and both boobs are sore for different reasons, i really have no clue what to do about this whole feeding situation.......I really want to stick it out as long as possible, but come on....how many people purposely torture themselves and for how long?????

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having such difficulties.
And the mastitis probably is something no one wishes they had! I have never had to breastfed (yet-eek!) but I think you should maybe go 50/50 for now.
I know you said you were pumping so maybe that's the first 50 and then if you just aren't pumping enough go to formula.
You and your baby need to be healthy and you being miserable and hurting won't help much... I am so sorry again that you are going through all this.
Hope things start to go your way soon.
Good luck girl and keep us updated...

Katie, you little girl is so beautiful. I'm so sorry to hear about all your problems with nursing. I also got mastitis with Addison and I feel your pain. I know it's such a hard decision about nursing and formula feeding, especially if you want to nurse. Good luck with everything.

Mastitis is HELL! I am so sorry! Nursing is sometimes more work than it is worth! Don't feel bad, you gave it your all! What is important is a healthy baby that is eating and gaining weight! Give her the formula! :)

Owww girl! You know it's not the end of the world if you can't nurse. Oakley is so beautiful I can't wait to see her this weekend.

Oh you poor thing! I have to say I know a bit of what you are going through. I think I called my mom crying about every time I nursed the girls for about the first few months wanting to have her tell me what to do if I should stop or not and she always told me to do what is best for me! I did also have that Mastitis stuff and it is not fun. Luckily I had my mom helping me that day because I think I slept for most of the day. Good luck

You poor girl! I just got over Mastitis. I am a nurser til they stop on their own, so I just keep going. It isn't fun all the time, especially with the infection! DRINK IBC ROOTBEER! (I know it sounds funny, but the yeast in it will help to produce MORE milk) Also, lots of breads help too! My Dr. told me that with Carlie, and we all know how chubby and healthy she was! :) Hopefully things start to get better! If you guys need anything, let me know! Number is the same. If you do end up not nursing, it isn't the end of the world. The most important thing is a healthy and happy baby, but you can try those things. Also, there is this stuff called Mother's Milk! It is an herbal tea my sister in law told me about. I have like 4 boxes of it if you want it. It is TOTALLY SAFE! I asked my Dr. :) Good Luck! (You can get that at any Good Earth store or you're more than welcome to use mine!)

Oh sweetie!!! I'm so sorry to hear about the nursing difficulties. I am looking forward to coming on Friday and helping you in ANY WAY I can. I cook, I clean, anything you need.

And don't worry about nursing honey, really. My mom couldn't nurse with my youngest sister, and formula worked out great! My sister is very healthy and both mommy and baby were happy. Plus I could help feed my little sis, which made for awesome sisterly bonding time! I loved it :)

Hang in there Katie, you and Oakley are in our prayers. And we'll see you Thursday night. :)

I am so sorry! That is the worst. I had mastitis a few times with Sawyer, and I thought I was going ot die! Good luck let me know if there is anything at all I can do!

Also do you do the football hold when you nurse? It is supposed tohelp with all sorts of issues, and it helped so much with mastitis when I had it. they say that where ever the babys chin is facing is where they are pulling the milk from, and most of the time you get mastitis on the outside of your boobs. Try it!

Katie this is Karry Seaver, I hope you don’t mind me peeking at your blog and commenting.
When I had it my doctor told me that Mastitis is basically strep in your breast-don’t take it lightly. You are sick, so allow yourself time to get better. Some suggestions I found helpful.
-buy a fresh pineapple and eat the whole thing yourself in a day.
-drink, drink, and drink some more. Don’t just drink water, but drink all day long.
-I know it hurts so bad to nurse when your breast are sore, but even if you plan on giving her a bottle for a feeding, grit your teeth and make her nurse until your milk starts to flow before you take her off. Breast pumps don’t do it as well.
-you probably know this, but try some Bag Balm too.
Good luck.
